The prospect of long-term recovery for those in addiction is a universal goal for most people.  However, the day-to-day pursuit of a lifestyle free from drugs and alcohol can overwhelm a person at any time in their recovery.

Millions of people from all over the world, including Kirk Driskell, have found freedom and long-term recovery by living “one day at a time” and the 12-Step Program.  Time goes on, and one day in recovery becomes one week, then one month becomes one year, and so on.

Kirk, an Atlanta businessman, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, is celebrating 10,000 days of freedom in recovery in September, 2022.   Vision Warriors Church, the nonprofit he founded, will be hosting celebrations to mark the milestone and inspire others to fight for the same freedom he’s found as a man living in long-term recovery.

These events will raise awareness and funds for Vision Warriors Church and coincide with National Recovery Awareness month in September.

10,000 days of sustained recovery from addiction is a milestone few dare to dream of.

The thought of how to live a life of sobriety was overwhelming for 20-year-old Kirk Driskell when he emerged from rehab in 1995.  His only plan:  attend an AA meeting.

Kirk’s first AA meeting would eventually turn into thousands of meetings over his 10,000 days of sobriety.  The combination of meetings, support from the recovery community, and living out the teachings of the 12-Step Program would be the exact plan Kirk needed to live what he calls an “epic life” for over 27 years.

Driskell is a husband, father of three, serial entrepreneur, and philanthropist.  An outspoken advocate for living a life of faith, service, and recovery, Kirk has served in many roles through Rotary International, including that of President of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta and District Governor of Rotary District 6900.

“In order to keep it, you’ve got to give it away,” was an AA principle Kirk learned early in his recovery that has become his life’s mission.

Kirk invested in his first recovery house as a way to give back and serve a need for safe, temporary, affordable shelter for men in recovery.   Culture and mindset—born of faith and community–would soon emerge from these humble beginnings that are now Vision Warriors.

More About Vision Warriors Church

Freedom lives here.

Vision Warriors is a community of people seeking freedom, collectively moving towards self-improvement, rigorous in nurturing recovery, and united in faith and service to one another.

It’s important to note that Vision Warriors is not a treatment program.  Rather, it’s a place of continued healing, strengthening of recovery principles, and radical lifestyle change.  We believe that addiction should not bankrupt a person or family and that safe, sober housing and services should be available to anyone seeking recovery.

Vision Warriors includes a network of four recovery homes in north metro Atlanta where men and women can continue to work on their recovery in safe, comfortable, and affordable environments. Vision Warriors is a 501(c)3 organization in north Fulton County, Georgia.

Freedom is achieved through a Vision Warriors mindset fully formed by the teachings of Christ.

A Vision Warrior is a man or woman in search of a true calling.
A person who is willing to:

• Change when needed

• Push against resistance in pursuit of a vision

• Sacrifice and battle through the pain

• Live a life of discipline to be a better disciple

• In becoming the best version as a son or daughter, father or mother, husband or wife, leader, and friend.

Recovery housing is just one area of service provision for Vision Warriors.  From a hopeless young man consumed by addiction now to a husband and father of three, respected local business leader, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, Kirk has been faithful to his calling to serve others, specifically those who struggle with addiction.  In so doing, he has declared a personal war on addiction and launched the waron.org platform.  The organization’s vision has always been to expand beyond walls of the housing to provide a robust offering of affordable service solutions for those seeking recovery and community.

“There hasn’t been a single person do more to help people in recovery in north metro Atlanta than Kirk Driskell,” said Adam Miller, a Vision Warrior and former house manager.

“A person’s chance of maintaining long-term recovery increases exponentially if we can get them to one year of sobriety,” said Kirk.  “And that’s what we do.”

“Not everyone is cut out to be a Vision Warrior,” explained Kirk.  “Living a life in recovery is not easy.  We—meaning the Vision Warriors community—are going to prepare them for life in recovery through daily discipline, making sure they are in a safe, sober environment, and to make sure they’re working a recovery program.  The Vision Warrior’s culture of the community is what sets us apart and makes what we do “stick” for so many of our members.”

More from Founder Kirk Driskell

“During my 27-plus years in recovery, I’ve seen holes in the transition process for those in recovery. Everyone focuses on helping the individual break free from addiction, but very few focus on the transition after treatment. This transitional period is crucial to living a sustainable life unbound by addiction.”

“My life purpose is to serve my family and others, and it is rooted firmly in my experience of addiction. Choosing every day to overcome the bondage of addiction, I feel it’s vital to share the discipline and struggle I know well that is so needed in communities around the nation. It’s my greatest blessing to walk alongside men and women with whom I can help share community, accountability, transparency, and ultimately freedom.”
